HOW TO DANCE LIKE MICK JAGGER

Firstly, I have to own up to my sheer lack of inspirational directions to write about our beautiful pieces at points. In truth, it can be pretty hard to get the creative juices going about a Rolling Stone man wearing Aviators (if it is even him...ah!) until I found this hilarity from an enthusiastic e-how.com member, publishing her scrawls on HOW TO DANCE LIKE MICK JAGGER Inspirational.

Today (July 26th) is Mick's birthday and as he is my long time, imaginary rock-n-roll boyfriend, I felt compelled to share with you the key to getting your swagger-like-Mick-Jagger ON. Yeah yeah, the guy is 60 something or other but, damn, he can move those hips and exudes sexiness like nobody's business. You may want to practice this in your bathroom mirror before sharing it with your public...if you have glitter, apply now.

 Difficulty: Moderately Challenging

Things You'll Need:

    * glitter
    * music listening device
    * tight spandex pants
    * gucci t-shirt
    * Rolling Stones music
    * mirror

Step 1

Hold something to simulate a microphone. Zucchinis are good as are small water bottles or wooden spoons. Whatever works for you. Select a Stones song you like and play it LOUD. Take care if using headphones. Some suggestions: "Can't You Hear Me Knockin'","Gimme Shelter", "Honky Tonk Woman", "Brown Sugar" or "Satisfaction".

Step 2

Do something to make your lips look bigger. Pucker up in an exaggerated fashion and hold this facial position throughout the dance (unless you are singing along to the Stones song and you need your lips to move for pronunciation purposes). When not singing, resume the hyper extension of your smackers.

Step 3

Project your head forward and back while placing one hand on your hip. Remember to keep lips pursed. You are kind of simulating a chicken, but a cool, old school, rock and roll chicken. Actually, you could think of it more like a rooster than a chicken. Yeah, a rooster is better. Think cocky! You are the rooster chasing after all the little chickens. That's a good metaphor to hold in your head.

Step 4

While pursing your lips and bobbing your head like a chicken/rooster, still holding the zucchini, hand on hip, begin to move forward into space by bending from the waist, then quickly return back to your starting position. For a special flourish you can wave your arms wildly.

Step 5

Incorporating ALL of the above movements, start to skip around. Hopefully you are in good cardiovascular shape because you are going to be moving for awhile. Periodically stand in one place and shake your hips to the left and to the right. Wag your finger for emphasis. Pretend you are scolding your little chickens. Resume your skipping.

Step 6

Helpful Tip: In addition to bobbing your head to and fro you may also shake your head as if you're saying "yes" while moving your head to the left and to the right. This is particularly effective when there is a long Keith solo on the guitar.

Step 7

Another delightful move involves standing with your legs about shoulder width apart and shifting the weight of your body, alternating between the left and the right leg. Sway your hips emphatically for greatest effect. Lift the foot off the ground of the alternating legs as if you are marching. Keep waving your arms and pointing.

Step 8

Remember. Mick has been practicing these moves for a long time. A very long time. Be gentle with yourself, act naturally, and most importantly, rock on with your bad self.

Homemade videos gone good

Normally I'm not big with fan videos, but I came across 'Undeclared' on YouTube. I'm really glad someone's made a video for it finally, the Dodos really should make this official!

And there's also a really cute version of Vampire Weekend's 'White Sky' that kind of reminds me of Plan B's 'No Good'

But best of all, what really made me cry and laugh out loud at the same time is this video. Officially Flaming Egg's first ever, yes, it's self-titled!

How silence could be so funny and so so cute I don't know!

We need to get a job...

After office hours can be a drag. But anyhoo... who does Julian Gross from Liars better now?

Is it Julian himself?

Or Gemma Dempster?

You be the judge! I still can't stop laughing.

Ahem. Wikipedia, you did it again.

To Wiki-followers.

Do you remember that rather robust article our dear Asst. Ed wrote a few months ago? (gah, has it really been that long?)

Well I couldn't help but contribute to her huffing, swearing and puffing when I found this brilliant human touch left behind in reference to Warpaint. Not the band. The actual paint you slap on your face before war. Let's take a look shall we.

"Paint, to which one paints themselves for the purpose of war, and not believing there isn't an article for this already"

Oooh we love their fighting attitude!

Wikipedia. Hold out your right cheek for a good slap. We rule.

Interview Idols

I hardly do interviews myself any more... Maybe the fear of people have completely taken over me and somehow I get more and more intimidated to do them myself (now that I have Gemma!)... But if I were completely brave to do anything, would I want to be like Nardwuar or Ushi?

It was Siobhan Fahey who introduced me to Ushi on Youtube... She interviewed Siobhan's favourite singer Melanie Safka. Now I don't really know who Melanie is but I have to say this is the most amusing interview I've ever seen! Can I be more like this please?

1000 dollars? Blink and you’ll miss it.

"Paying for purchases with Blink is a breeze. It's FAST, EASY and SECURE. It speeds up your time at checkout with no swiping necessary. Just blink and go."

That’s what the cash-cats of American bank Chase say. Now you can touch your bank card or credit card to a magnetic strip reader just like we do with Oysters, and hey-presto! You’ve paid for something in the blink of an eye.

SUPERSWEET is concerned. Chase stress security, but we don’t believe them. How does it stop a dodgy tea-leaf from nicking your card and ‘touching’ it against shop ‘readers’ and buying whatever the hell they want? No signature required? No pin? Sounds fucking terrible to us.

Imagine this, you’re walking down the street and some clever tech geek has a magnetic reader down his pants with a cash amount entered on it for 500 dollars. He bumps into you and you take no notice, but your Blink cash card has transferred a shit load of money into his pants without you even realizing. Imagine telling that to the coppers?

“Honestly constable, I didn’t pay for any dirty fishing tackle.”

And anyway, why does the world have to get itself in a damn hurry? Why doesn’t everything have to take less time than it takes a fart to escape a duck’s arse? Are we in such a bloody impatient mind-set we can’t take 5 minutes to enjoy making a shopping purchase? That is a sad life we live.

So kids, listen up, when this Blink shit hits the UK, don’t go there! Take your time, enjoy buying stuff, in fact, take a really fucking long time at the till and smile at all the impatient bastards queuing behind you. Life goes by too fast without us blinking it along.

Best and Worst Music VDO Awards

Honestly, if MTV could do it, so can I on... on my own on Good Friday where my only guest of honour is a cat called Michael de Babioshka.

Let's start with the best one, I know it's only the beginning of the month but it looks like this could be the best thing anyone will get to see in the next 28 days already! Phantogram, SUPERSWEET's favourite new band, with their new single 'Mouthful of Diamonds' (hmmm.... wouldn't that be nice?) - their video is just so alien-like I wanted to cry when I first saw it. I once went to an amazing gig where someone in the crowd kept yelling, "Seriously, how did you do that?" to the band. And I was like... what a thing to be shouting out. But now I'm going through the same motion... How did Phantogram do that? It's so good, so beautiful, powerful and mysteriously seductive! I'm in love right now. BRAVO!

And now let's skip all the way to the worst one. Just like Eric Prydz's 'Call On Me', Grum's 'Can't Shake This Feeling' is another interpretation of the infamous and attention-seeking (but works every time) "sex sells" method. However, before you think I'm torturing our office cat with a facelift. It's only because Michael got too squeamish to watch and I've had to force her. How demeaning can this get? Surely even Terry Richardson would disapprove!

But all in all, thanks to both. Now I have seen everything!
