Me and Tiffany went to see the Dodos together last Thursday and it's the best gig I've seen so far in 2009! Here's my crap bootleg of 'This is a Business' off the new album, Time to Die. And if you want to hear what Tiffany thinks, you can click and read about it here.
We need to get them to do more fun things for us next time! It's been too fun every time and now my life is a little dull... Save me the Dodos!
No Age almost played our Launch Party with Liars 2 years ago, but for some reason they didn't get to so we had our friends Prinzhorn Dance School play for us instead. That worked too but I can't help wonder how amazing it would have been had we had all three of them played... Oh well, nevermind. More chances in the future. Their EP, Losing Feeling is out next October 12th on Sub Pop, and here's the teaser!
If you’ve not seen this band gyrating about in glorified spandex then your eyes have been saved from instigating a flabbergasting vomit reflex. While Steel Panther is a meant to chuckle listeners with its parody on glam heavy metal rock band, in the lyrics “You have my heart, but my c**k is community property”, I laughed more at its pathetic attempt to actually be a success in such a bastardised form of comedy. While it is an infuriatingly catchy tune, (ugh, even SS’s Assistant Ed. was chirping along to it!), I am a little confused to see if they really take themselves seriously as band or a comedic act, when there’s the likes of Flight of The Conchords who transform Steel Panther into a primeval slapstick act. Surely music goers today have had their comical thrill with legends Spinal Tap, but apparently Island Records want to get on the bandwagon after the fictional band played shows this summer. So birthed like a potty-mouthed, ballad-screeching clone, Steel Panther (said with a whisky infused voice and dripping incestuous sexual vigor) release their upcoming single ‘Community Property’ in Cleanest, Clean, and Filthiest versions, with an actual “boiiiinggg” reminiscent of Pat Sharp’s Funhouse, all to hide those naughty words. Warned by their PR to “lock up your Mums, sisters and daughters!” I instead deliver orders to have the relentless disappointing parody sealed in a padded cell away from harming the pure comical memories of Spinal Tap and for the sake of humanity! Ok, maybe that’s a little dramatic, so judge for yourselves with a face-off with Spinal Tap versus Steel Panther…and watch with caution, don’t be lured by their naked flesh!
I'm hanging out with 2 favourite 'beings' tonight, let's see who's better at making faces. Let's start with a human called Rory first... And then our office kitten, Michael... I'd say Rory wins... for once! Hooray!
We're excited about the Raveonettes' new album, In and Out of Control, but have they had their drummer Leah returned from BRMC yet?
There's only one way to find out, and we're giving you the tip. Walk yourself down to Hoxton Bar & Kitchen 2 Mondays from now (that's 7th Sept in case you look confused), and find out for yourself. But to do that, you need to book a ticket first from https://crowdsurge.com/theraveonettes
Oh, we mentioned that WOW Package right? Here's what's inside...
1) See Raveonettes live (they're usually very very good!) 2) Get a free CD - this is the new album we've been raving about. 3) That CD comes signed. FYI, it doesn't come out for 4 weeks after that so be good and do not leak it. 4) Find out if Leah has been returned yet.
